Conditioning
To ensure that the clay will stay both strong and slightly flexible even after you have cured it, it is very important to condition it before creating the final forms. Conditioning means basically that you knead it smooth. You can do this with your hands, but many use a pasta machine for that purpose. Just remember that when the pasta machine once has been used with polymer clay as it is dedicated to the clay. it should not come back to the kitchen any more.
How to know when the clay is sufficiently conditioned? Eventually you will learn to feel it, but it should be so soft that it is bendable, without cracking.
